What is the Attention Age focus test?
Attention Age is a five-minute attention span test for iPhone that turns three short timed tasks into a 0-100 Attention Index, with each part explained in plain language. You get your strongest category for the session, one suggested practice focus, and a validity check that flags runs that probably weren't a real attempt (you answered the phone halfway through, say).
The flashing-shapes demo above is a 15-second taste of the first task. The real test runs all three, back to back:
| Task | What you do |
|---|---|
| Signal Watch | Tap the signals, skip the decoys |
| Interference | Judge which way the middle arrow points |
| Tracking | Follow moving shapes |
Five minutes, three tasks, one number you can actually read.
The five scores in your attention span result
- Sustained Attentionstaying with it to the end
- Response Controlnot tapping when you shouldn't
- Consistencyhow even your responses are
- Distractor Handlingignoring the noise around the target
- Object Trackingkeeping moving things in view
Each category comes with a short plain-language note. Suggestions for daily practice lean toward your lowest category in your latest session.
Inside the app

After the test: practice and real focus sessions
The test is the start, not the product. Once you have a baseline, there are three ways to use it.
- Daily circuits in Quick (about 2 min), Standard (about 5 min) or Extended (about 10 min).
- A weekly re-test with the same tasks and the same scoring, on any day that suits you.
- Deep Work: a clean countdown with a Lock Screen Live Activity and optional brown noise, rain or Deep Field ambience.
Lumen, an abstract companion made of light, grows clearer as you finish assessments, focus minutes and milestones. It is earned by showing up, never by your score, and it stays out of the way during timed tasks.
How to read your score honestly
Your Attention Index describes how you did on these tasks, on this phone, today. It is not an age, a percentile or a ranking, and nobody else's scores are involved.
One design decision we made on purpose: the weekly comparison is built to be hard to fool. Changes under 5 points are labeled "about the same". Early gains that probably come from simply getting used to the tasks are flagged. And every result stays in your history, including the lower ones, because a chart that only goes up isn't telling you much.
The honest limit: scores usually rise with practice. That shows you improved at these tasks, not proof that anything broader changed.
Attention span test questions
How long does the Attention Age test take?
About five minutes. It is three timed tasks in a row: Signal Watch, Interference and Tracking. If five minutes feels like a lot, there is a 20-second practice challenge you can try first.
Does Attention Age tell me how old my attention is?
No, despite the name. The result is a 0-100 Attention Index for your performance on these tasks on this device. The listing is clear that it is not an age, a percentile or a ranking, and it is not compared with any population.
Is this an ADHD test?
No. Attention Age is an entertainment and self-practice app, not a medical, clinical or diagnostic test. If you are worried about your attention, talk to your clinician.
Is Attention Age free?
The app is free to download. The Daily Signal, practice for Signal Watch, Interference and Tracking, weekly re-tests and 10 and 25 minute Deep Work sessions are free. Attention Age Pro (monthly or annual) adds seven more precision drills and 45 and 90 minute Deep Work sessions. Earned results are never locked.
Why did my score go up after a week?
Scores usually rise with practice. That shows you got better at these tasks, not proof of broader change. The app flags early gains that probably come from familiarity, and calls changes under 5 points "about the same".
Do I need an account? Where do my results go?
No account. Results stay on your iPhone. There are no ads and no third-party analytics, and you can export your history as CSV or delete everything from Settings.
What is the Daily Signal?
One 20-second challenge per day, the same pattern for everyone on the same date. You can share a simple result grid. There are no rankings and no fake competitors.
